On Your Side: Where is my tax refund or stimulus check?

News 12 at 6, October 29, 2008

The IRS says it has nearly $15 million in undeliverable refunds that it wants to get in the hands of the people it belongs to.

And that's just in South Carolina and Georgia. The money is from unclaimed economic stimulus checks and also tax refunds. Nearly 1600 checks in all. And most of them are there because of an address error.

Here's what you need to know. For stimulus checks, you need to contact the IRS by November 28.
That's because those checks have to go out by December 31st of this year.

Click here to see if one of those checks are yours: www.irs.gov
You can also call 1-866-234-2942 to check on the status or update the address.

As for those tax refunds, the average unclaimed check is $994.
Just click here to see if one of them belongs to you: www.irs.gov/individuals

You'll just need to fill out some information to prove it's your return. From there you can check the status of your refund and also update your address. You can also call 1-800-829-1954.
