COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina is releasing its unemployment figures for August.
The Department of Employment and Workforce will release the numbers Tuesday.
The state had seen five straight months of improvement in the unemployment rate before July's report showed a 0.1 percentage point increase to 10.8 percent.
Economists say the most disturbing part of the recent unemployment numbers is the five-month decline in the number of people in the state's work force.
The total number of people in the labor force was 2.14 million in July -- that was down 7,000 jobs from June and 38,000 fewer jobs that in July 2009.
The national unemployment rate was up 0.1 percentage points in August, to 9.6 percent.
