Send National Learn To Row day in Augusta

Augusta, Ga--I'm sure you've crossed the savannah and seen a number of rowers on the river..or even out at Langley pond. Did you ever think you might want to do it?? well today was your day. The Augusta Rowing Club taking part in the National Learn to Row day.

Nearly 100 folks of all ages took advantage and headed to the boat house with the Augusta Rowing Club. Free instruction with a chance to learn the nuances of the sport. From learning the strokes on land, to actually being part of the team on the savannah. Sometimes you just don't realize what it takes until you actually do it.

"I just needed a challenge, that's pretty much it. I heard it was hard and I was like ok. It's a little bit intimidating but you have to take everything with a grain of salt." said Rebekah Kent

"It is technical, it's like connecting with the people you're rowing with and not worrying about what you're doing but to make sure you're in time with them" said Chris Mershon

The sport continues to grow in the southeast and days like today only help to promote the sport. Michael Cobb has been the coach of the rowing club for a number of years and his face beams with a smile to see people get out and take advantage of this great opportunity.

"Across the country they do National Learn to Row day and for us it's a great recruiting tool for all the groups." said Michael Cobb "As you saw as we walked out here I've got probably four or five kids from ASU that will probably come out in the fall and row and I've probably seen 10 to 20 high school kids which will bring our ranks up there as well"

Augusta Rowing Club offers classes for all levels during the year and the area is fortunate to have both the Savannah and Langley pond as great venues for the sport.
