Lincolnton, GA -- The story didn't end the way Lincoln County wanted it to.
Their journey ended in the state semifinals Friday night with a 10-7 loss to Dooly County. It was a disappointment, sure, but most people didn't even expect this much when the season started.
The Red Devils replaced a large chunk of their starters with underclassmen, and they grew up fast.
Now, with this deep playoff run under their belts and not too many seniors saying good bye, it opens up a promising future for Larry Campbell's group.
"Well, they're young. All our offensive linemen are back. We lose two great receivers. Our quarterback and both running backs are back, and we'll just have to try to build on it," Campbell said.
Lincoln County ends the season with an 11-2 record. Their only other loss was to rival Washington-Wilkes.
