AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State senior shortstop Kacee Camp was selected as a first-team Academic All-American on Thursday, according to an announcement from CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America.).

With her selection, Camp became the first student-athlete in the history of Augusta State University to earn the prestigious honor.

To be eligible for Capital One Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.

Capital One’s involvement in the Academic All-America program began in January, 2011. To learn more about the AAA program, visit www.cosida.com. ESPN the Magazine was sponsor of the Academic All-America® program through September of 2010 when ESPN took over the sponsorship; that sponsorship became the Capital One Academic All-America® program in January of 2011. In prior years, both Kodak and GTE served as title sponsors of the prestigious program.

A native of nearby Harlem, Ga., and Biology major with a 3.88 GPA, Camp batted .390 and scored 35 runs for Augusta State in 2012. She tallied 13 doubles, three triples, four home runs and 27 RBI and helped lead the Jaguars to the NCAA Southeast Regional for the fourth consecutive season.

Camp was named the ASU Athletics’ Department Female Student-Athlete of the Year earlier this month and she also garnered All-Southeast Region honors for the fourth consecutive season. She was selected to the Peach Belt Conference’s all-conference first team and she also named to the PBC’s All-Academic squad and sported the highest GPA of any player on the team.
