There's still plenty of time for the Head Ball Coach to mold his South Carolina football squad into a championship contender, but he certainly has all the pieces to get it done.
A key component in that is the quarterback. Last year at this time, the controversey surrounded the mainstay, Stephen Garcia, and the back up, Connor Shaw.
The relationship with Garcia didn't end well, but it opened things up for what's now a good environment to win with Shaw under center.
"He doesn't do stupid stuff, so you can win with Connor Shaw," Spurrier said. "That's why, really, we won eleven games. He and our defense was really good, running the ball. We had a good team, and hopefully we'll have another good team."
Shaw and the 2012 Gamecocks get their first chance to prove themselves August 30th at Vanderbilt.
