LILBURN, Ga. - The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team is ranked fifth in the first 2012-13 regular-season USA Today/ESPN Division II top-25 Coaches' Poll.
The ranking of fifth still leaves USC Aiken with its first-ever top-5 national ranking. USC Aiken was also ranked a program-best fifth in the preseason USA Today/ESPN Division II top-25 Coaches' Poll.
Since being ranked for the first time in the 2010-11 season on Dec. 14, 2010, USC Aiken has now been ranked in the top-25 in the last 29 polls (school-record). The Pacers have been ranked in the top-10 in each of the last three years.
USC Aiken is one of two Peach Belt Conference teams currently ranked in the top-10 with Clayton State ranked seventh.
Ashland is still the nation’s No. 1 team.
USC Aiken has started off the 2012-13 season by reeling off three straight 20-plus wins, including a 72-49 home win over current national No. 23 Wingate (3-1) on Wednesday, Nov. 14.
USC Aiken (3-0) will next continue its season-opening five-game homestand with a 2 p.m. contest against Florida Tech (3-1) on Sunday, Nov. 25. The two programs will be meeting for the first time since 2003.
