AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The man accused in Richmond County's first murder of the year made his first appearance in court on Monday.

Deontre Alvez Hubert is accused of killing 21-year-old Edward Yancey outside Club Fiesco in the early hours of New Year's Day.

Witnesses say Hubert fired multiple shots into the air, hitting Yancey in the head.

Investigators say Yancey was in the wrong place at the wrong time and was not involved in the argument that led to the shooting.

Hubert is charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The judge sent Hubert's case to a superior court on Monday. Hubert will remain in custody.
