AIKEN, S.C. -- The first reading of an ordinance that would bring two hotels to the City of Aiken has passed.
A potential developer presented a plan to Aiken City council members on Monday night. The plan would build a Holiday Inn Express and Staybridge Suites on Whiskey Road near Stratford Drive.
The developer presented a plan last month, but many residents voiced concerns over traffic along Stratford Drive and the ordinance was denied.
The developer has since redone the plans and says the new plan would have patrons enter and exit on Whiskey Road instead of Stratford Drive, eliminating traffic problems.
Council members passed the first reading unanimously.
