JACKSON, S.C. -- The search for a gunman in Jackson was called off late Monday afternoon.
The search had been ongoing since around 2:30 p.m. when a man was shot in the chest. The victim, David Dempsey, was taken to the hospital. There is no word on his condition.
Jackson Middle School was on lockdown in connection with the search but that has since been lifted.
The search for the shooter was centered around the 400 block of 5th Street in Jackson.
Investigators say the gunman is a black male, possibly with short dreadlocks. Information on the motive has not been released at this time.
