UPDATE: Deputies capture man accused of killing wife

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- A man accused of shooting and killing his wife early Sunday morning is behind bars.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office took Harvey Mitchell into custody on the 1200 block of Johnson Ave in Augusta around 8 p.m. Sunday.

Mitchell is in the Richmond County Jail and is charged with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Initial report:

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Richmond County investigators are searching for a man involved in an overnight murder in south Augusta.

Deputies responded to a call about gunshots in the 500 block of Richmond Hill Road West shortly after 1 a.m.

They arrived to find 34-year-old Keya Mitchell had died from a shot to the head.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office says they are searching for Keya's husband, Harvey Mitchell, who they say is connected to the murder.

Anyone with information can remain anonymous.

This is Richmond County's 21st homicide of 2012.
