Send Boy Scout being treated at Doctors Hospital after Greenville van crash

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- A Boy Scout is being treated at an Augusta hospital after an accident in Greenville.

The crash happened Friday night when a van carrying nine boys left the road and flipped down an embankment.

The Boy Scouts and their scoutmaster were heading to Camp Whites Pines. Three of the boys were from Columbia, two from Orlando, and four from the Greenville area.

Four boys remain in the hospital, including one from Columbia who is being treated at the JMS Burn Center at Doctors Hospital. The boy, identified to us as D.J. Rish, has severe damage to his leg and a portion had to be amputated.

We are told Rish is in critical condition.

The scouts were all between 14 and 18 years old. The fire chief says they are still trying to find out how the driver lost control.

Four campers walked back to the camp site to alert others of what happened.

The bus was heading back to the camp from an adventure trek where scouts earn a merit badge for participating.
