AUGUSTA, Ga. -- An Augusta man is dead after being shot in the head Thursday morning, and now, the name of the suspect has been released.

The shooting happened around 2:15 a.m. on Kissingbower Road and Gordon Highway, outside of Alter Ego'z.

Investigators say 23-year-old Marcus Washington was involved in a physical fight with 18-year-old Devin Washington. They were eventually separated and were both leaving when Marcus Washington allegedly got a gun from a car and started firing shots in the direction of Devin Washington and 22-year-old Pr'Shawn Williams. Devin Washington and Williams came to the club in the same car.

After gunfire erupted in the parking, the club quickly turned into a crime scene. Investigators tell us Williams was shot once in the head and once in the upper left leg. He was taken to GHSU for treatment and died from his injuries at 3 p.m.

Sgt. Dan Carrier with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office says the fight happened right outside of the nightclub's doors.

"The altercation was separated, then gunshots were fired," he said.

Franklin Dixon works right next door to the club. He says when you look around the neighborhood, he's not that surprised someone was shot.

"If you really look around, it's really deteriorating; you've got so many abandoned places here people hang around in," he said.

Carrier added, "We've had incidences there before in the parking lot."

Devin Washington, who is considered to be a person of interest. He does not have any charges filed against him at this time.

Anyone with information on either Marcus Washington or Devin Washington is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (706) 821-1080. Ask to speak with a Violent Crimes investigator.

This is Richmond County’s 17th homicide in 2012.
