HARLEM, Ga. -- After about 10 years of planning, Harlem Public Safety officers finally have a new building to call home.
Renovations of the old Culpepper Ford building are complete and officers hope to move in to the new building in the coming weeks.
It will be the first time the police department and fire department are under one roof and farther away from the railroad tracks.
The new building totals about $3 million in taxpayer money.
"Both our law enforcement and fire operations were desperately in need of new and updated space, so this will provide that for them and hopefully serve their needs for a long time in the future," explained Harlem City Manager Jason Rizner.
"We'll be able to invite the citizens in and interact with us a little bit better, and we'll have a lot more room," said Harlem Public Safety Chief David Sward.
And you're invited to come and check out the renovated building.
The city is holding a community open house on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
