COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. -- New requirements for Georgia drivers are aggravating many at the Department of Driver Services.

The DDS requires Georgia drivers to bring in more documentation to renew or get their license, effective July 1st.

"I think it's terrible. See that line?" said Elizabeth Picklesimer, who was sent back home for not having her birth certificate. "I'll come back next week."

The new regulations require Georgia drivers to bring in four documents: Proof of person, proof of Social Security and two proofs of residency.

1. To show proof of person, you can bring one of the following:
  • Valid U.S. passport
  • Original birth certificate or certified copy
  • Certificate of naturalization
  • Certificate of citizenship
  • Consular report of birth abroad

2. To show proof of Social Security, bring one of the following:
  • W-2 form
  • SSA-1099 form
  • Social Security card
  • Non-SSA 1099 form
  • Pay stub with name and Social Security number
  • Denial letter Issued by SSA

3. To show proof of residency, bring two of the following:
  • Utility bill
  • Bank statement

A change you will notice on your new license is a little gold star printed on the top right corner. It shows you have the new secure driver's license or ID.
