Unemployment rate increases in October for CSRA

ATLANTA -- The Georgia Department of Labor has released the preliminary unemployment rates for the CSRA and the metro Augusta area.

The rate for metro Augusta is unchanged from September's 8.6 percent. The rate back in October 2011 was 9.3 percent.

For the unemployment rate in the CSRA, the department found that rate has increased to 9.8 percent, which is up five-tenths of a percentage point from 9.3 percent in September.

In September 2011, the rate was 10.2 percent.

There were 819 more layoffs in warehousing, supportive services, health care, social assistance, accommodations, food services, manufacturing, construction, trade and transportation.

In Georgia, the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate declined to 8.7 percent in October.
