Unemployment rate declines in September for CSRA

ATLANTA -- The Georgia Department of Labor has announced the preliminary unemployment rate for the metro Augusta area and the CSRA for September.

The department found that rate has declined to 8.6 percent, which is down seven-tenths of a percentage point from 9.5 percent in August.

For the Augusta metro area, there were 166 fewer layoffs in trade, transportation and warehousing and administrative and support services. Also 2,694 more people got jobs.

For the unemployment rate in the CSRA, the department found that rate has declined to 9.4 percent, which is down 1 percentage point from 10.4 percent in August. In September 2011, the rate was 10.3 percent.

There were 125 fewer layoffs in trade, transportation and warehousing, administrative and support services and health care and social assistance. Also, 2,192 more people were employed last month.

In Georgia, the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate declined to 9.0 percent in September. The state lost 400 jobs from August to September.
