AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Once again, the United Way of the CSRA has been awarded a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) grant. This marks the fourth year the local organization has received the grant.

The grant, provided by the Walmart Foundation, helps make sure more taxpayers are informed about the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and that they have access to free tax filing assistance. By IRS estimates, about 20 percent of eligible individuals and families don’t know they qualify for EITC. EITC is a refundable federal income tax credit for low to moderate income individuals and families.

Agencies in the program that are offering no cost tax preparation are Augusta Urban Ministries, 30901 Development Corporation and Augusta Technical College. Appointments must be scheduled and will be available through April 15.

You can find locations, dates and times for the services by calling 211 or (706) 826-1495. You can also check online here.
