AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- News 12 has learned new details about a lockdown at a Richmond County school involving a shooting suspect.
On Wednesday, Southside Elementary School was locked down after deputies arrested a suspect on school grounds.
Parents were calling News 12 with one story, while the school board was giving another.
It all started at a home a few blocks away on Cindy Street. A shooting happened there earlier in the day, and the suspects left the scene in a blue car. Deputies say they spotted a car that matched the description in the Southside Elementary parking lot.
When a deputy approached the car, they say 24-year-old Rhyan Davis got out and walked into the school, claiming he was picking up a child. It turns out, he had a warrant out for his arrest and was trying to elude police officers.
Lt. Calvin Chew says Davis was "apprehended without incident" as he walked inside the school's doorway.
Deputies say Davis was arrested for a previous warrant for simple battery but that he was unarmed.
School officials say the school immediately went into lockdown when Davis entered the building, and the students were never in any danger.
Neither the Sheriff's Office nor the school system wanted to make a comment on camera to News 12.
