AIKEN, S.C. -- Aiken officers were involved in a car chase Tuesday night.

There were reports of a driver, later identified as 46-year-old Mark Winston Greathouse, allegedly going down Laurens Street and hitting multiple mailboxes.

The car, a 2002 Honda Accord, was later found near Laurens Street and Edgefield Avenue. Officers tried to stop the driver, but Greathouse allegedly kept going.

An Aiken County deputy tried to put out tire-deflating strips, but Greathouse's car ended up hitting a deputy's car, which was parked off the roadway. The deputy was not injured in the collision.

Greathouse was taken to the hospital. He will be charged with failure to stop for blue lights and siren, hit-and-run with property damage, malicious injury greater than $10,000, driving under suspension (second offense) and driving under the influence (second offense).
