AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Georgia Food Stamp program helps low-income households buy food to feed their families. But now investigators believe some folks on the inside may have been taking advantage of the program.
A whistleblower contacted News 12 On Your Side about state employees committing food stamp fraud.
News 12 confirmed through the GBI that agents are aiding the Attorney General's Office and the Department of Human Resources in an investigation within Richmond County.
Right now, all three departments are very tight-lipped about the investigation since it's ongoing.
A News 12 source tells says it involves three employees who opened fake accounts to receive benefits, but the GBI will not confirm or deny that information.
No arrests have been made at this time.
