UPDATE: Sheriff candidate Freddie Sanders recovering after dog bite

Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 AUGUSTA, Ga. -- One of the men looking to become Richmond County's next top cop is recovering at home. News 12 has learned Richmond County Sheriff candidate Freddie Sanders is doing OK after having emergency surgery over the weekend. Sheriff Ronnie Strength says Sanders was playing with his dog when the dog bit him in the face. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012 AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Sheriff Ronnie Strength has confirmed that Freddie Sanders, Republican nominee for Richmond County sheriff, is in the hospital. We are told one of his pet dogs bit him in the face Saturday morning, and he underwent emergency surgery. Strength says Sanders was playing with his dog when the incident occurred. We will continue to update you on Sanders' condition as we get more details.
