AUGUSTA, Ga. --- It's a walk through history, and a journey with the legendary James Brown.
"I think that he would be happy. And I think he would look at Deanna and I and say I told you all I was in history, ya'll didn't know who I was. Ya'll don't know who I was, it'll be years before you all realize who I am. I think he would be right as I walk around this exhibit," Reverend Al Sharpton said.
Revered Al Sharpton and James Brown's daughter, Deanna, bringing back the memories of the Godfather of Soul. It's a tribute they say is well deserved.
"I really liked how they went back in history, and showed there was a time where African American artists couldn't put their picture on the cover of their albums. And then it showed how he emerged to where he was on the cover and then they actually showed a 45 where he put his face," Reverend Sharpton said.
Rev. Sharpton says if James Brown were here he'd be proud to see all of this. Pictures line the walls. You can see Reverend Sharpton with James Brown in downtown Augusta at the dedication of the James Brown Statue in 2005.
"You remember a lot of things, you find yourself drawn back from a lot of tears, because your proud. He deserved this, even though we'll always miss him, at least his legacy is safe," Reverend Sharpton said.
And as we approach the two year anniversary of Brown's death, it's a reminder of what James Brown accomplished in music, history, and in the Augusta community.
"Every Christmas since he died two years ago, Christmas is never the same. It reminds me that that's the day he died. And he was the only father I knew in my life, and he was the only Godfather that many millions knew around the world," Reverend Sharpton said.
Reverend Sharpton preached at Deanna's church Sunday morning. He also plans to visit James Brown's gravesite. Monday, he'll be at the James Brown Turkey Giveaway.
