AUGUSTA, Ga.---A new magazine article suggests the godfather of soul had a vasectomy in the 1980's, making it unlikely he fathered a child since. His widow says that's not the case.
"The allegations are completely false," Tomi Rae Brown said.
The allegations come from the latest issue of GQ magazine. In it is an article on the godfather of soul that says James Brown told at least six people he had a vasectomy in 1984.
Tomi Rae Brown says the article is one-sided.
"Nobody asked anything of my friends or of me and James' friends. They asked things of people that would say those kind of horrible things about him in a GQ magazine? Come on. That's not right," she said.
If the allegations are true, her son, James Brown the Second, could not be James Brown's son, but she says that's not the case.
"Every bit of him emotes his father and every fiber in his being. And every move he makes when he goes to dance class and he plays ball or he does whatever he does is so much like his father that sometimes I have to leave the room," she said.
She says anyone who contibuted to the article is trying to make sure she doesn't see any of the estate, but at the same time is hurting the godfather himself.
"To this very day, they are continuing to rape James Brown of his legacy, whether they know it or not, but they are," she said.
As for the magazine, she says she knows what to do.
"I plan to sue GQ actually and anybody else who tries to say that James Brown isn't his son. And that'll come out in court. And my lawyer's taking notes, so bring on your articles," she said.
