Pamela Rascon of Shepeard Community Blood Center tells News 12 there is an urgent need for type O blood in the Augusta community.

"O negative is the Universal blood type and anyone can receive this blood type. However, when patients are in critical condition with over 60% of their bodies burned, O negative blood is their fighting chance at life," Rascon said in a statement.

Donors must be in good health and 17 years or older, or 16 years old with parental consent.

Call 706-737-4551 for more information, or visit www.shepeardblood.org.

Ken, it is the negative rh factor that makes O negative Universal. Many also can receive O Positive.
