AUGUSTA, Ga.---Retired Richmond County Probate Judge Iree Pope died Sunday. She was 91.

She was the first elected female judge in the Augusta area.

Judge Pope started out during World War II as a clerk in the probate office, which was then called "the Court of the Ordinary."

She retired in 1998.

Caling hours for friends are from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Platt's Funeral Home on Crawford Avenue. Graveside services are at 11 am Wednesday at Westover Memorial Park
