FORT GORDON, Ga. (WRDW) -- A team from Fort Rucker, Alabama has arrived in Augusta to investigate a Fort Gordon soldier's death during a training exercise.

Officials say the body of 27-year-old Anthony Thomas Scardino was found Friday night after he went missing during land navigation training that afternoon. Fort Gordon spokesman J.C. Mathews tells News 12 a team from the U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center arrived on Sunday to investigate the accident.

Mathews says this is a standard procedure required for a situation like this one, or when someone dies.

He also says the Armed Forces Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on Sunday. The results of the autopsy have not been released yet.
