Overstreet dismisses Merry lawsuit, elucidates abstention law

Superior Court Judge Carlisle Overstreet has dismissed a lawsuit against Augusta commissioners, the mayor and the government. Government watchdog Woody Merry filed that lawsuit in February after he says commissioner Marion Williams was abstaining from voting to prevent the mayor from breaking tie votes.

Missing child found

11-year-old Toby Alan Heffner, Jr. was found Friday at about 11 am. The boy left a note at his home Thursday saying he was running away and was missing since Thursday around 5:00 pm.

$500 reward offered for arrest of Christopher Arthur

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of a Warrenville man suspected in a series of burglaries since December 2005 in North Augusta, Warrenville, Gloverville and Aiken, South Carolina.

Augusta awarded $50,000 in Preserve America Grant funds

Augusta was announced as one of the winners of the first Preserve America Grants this morning by First Lady Laura Bush in Washington, D.C. One of only 45 recipients, the city of Augusta has been awarded $50,000 to conduct a wayfinding plan that will emphasize the historic, cultural and heritage tourism resources of Augusta.

Free CPR class March 25

The Augusta Red Cross is sponsoring a “Free CPR Saturday” later this month. To participate, you have to sign up by Monday, March 13.

Hit and run suspect previously arrested for DUI

Investigators say a man with a history of drunk driving killed a pedestrian and then ran. Christopher Vogt is in the Richmond County jail tonight under charges of vehicle homicide in the first degree, DUI and hit and run.

New MCG Cancer Center to bring research breakthroughs to the bedside

Every 20 minutes in the state of Georgia, someone's diagnosed with cancer. In South Carolina it's one every 30 minutes. And in Georgia, every 40 minutes, someone dies of cancer. It’s one every hour in South Carolina. That's the reason for the new Cancer Research Center at MCG.
