Evans motor vehicle office temporarily closed

As of the afternoon of Friday, April 21, the computer issues at the Motor Vehicle Division in Evans have been resolved. The office will resume normal business hours on Monday, April 24 at 8:00 a.m.

2 music festivals planned for Memorial Day weekend

Two music festivals are coming to our area...and they're on the same weekend. Thousands of parrot lovers are coming to Harlem for Birdie Stock 2006. About 30,000 parrot lovers are expected to attend this four-day festival, which is planned for May 26th through the 29th.

2-car accident on Highway 19

Medics airlifted one person to MCG from the scene of a wreck in Aiken County at the intersection of Highway 19 and Reynolds Pond Road Wednesday night. Two cars were involved in that crash. It happened around 7 o'clock.

2-car accident on River Watch

A two-car accident had Wednesday's rush hour traffic tied up on River Watch Parkway westbound, near the Augusta Canal. One of the victims had to be pulled from the wreck and may be seriously injured.

Convicted child-killer Downs requests execution

The South Carolina Supreme Court will have to decide if a convicted child-killer, Junior Downs, can be executed. Attorneys submitted written arguments to the court April 19. Downs is requesting his appeals be dropped so the execution can proceed.

Commissioners vote on cab contract, meeting times

Tuesday, April 18 was a busy day for Augusta commissioners. They voted to end the exclusive contract that radio cab has with the airport. Also Tuesday, in a 6 to 3 vote, commissioners voted not to change their meeting times.

Bank robbed; suspect at large

Shortly after 3:00 pm, the Wachovia bank branch at Washington and Bertram roads in Augusta was robbed. The lone suspect was armed with handgun and was wearing a paintball type mask over his face. He was also wearing a white in color cloth over his head, possibly a t-shirt.
