A heater is likely to blame for the fire that killed 67-year-old Oria Sumrall. Investigators say the fire that took Ms. Sumrall's life was accidental, and it all started from her trying to keep warm.

Would minimum wage increase help or harm Augusta?

The US House of Representatives voted Wednesday to raise the minimum wage to $7.25 an hour. The increase would raise the country's minimum wage for the first time since 1997. But the move isn't getting praise from everyone.

Hill residents shocked at rape of elderly woman

A woman was attacked by a rapist as she returned to her home before dawn in one of Augusta's best neighborhoods--the Hill area. It happened early Tuesday in the 2500 block of Walton Way, near Augusta State University.

Deputy clerk of court arrested for racketeering

A Richmond County clerk of court has found herself on the wrong side of the law. 29-year-old Mandy Rhodes was arrested Tuesday, accused of stealing more than $21,000 from civil magistrate court.

Woman sexually assaulted on Walton Way

An elderly woman returning from walking her dog was attacked and raped along Walton Way in Augusta. This happened not far from Augusta State University. Investigators say there are several unusual aspects to this case.

Richmond County court clerk arrested

Augusta civil and magistrate court deputy clerk Mandy Rhodes of Martinez was arrested this afternoon. She's accused of stealing $21,000 in public money. She first came under suspicion last summer.

Aiken County magistrate judge arrested

Magistrate court Judge Charles Carter of Aiken County was arrested today. Warrants say Judge Carter knew that a county employee was having an improper sexual relationship but did not report it to authorities.

I-20 eastbound paced Jan. 8 through 12

Eastbound traffic on I-20 will be paced on Wednesday January 8, and continue through Friday, January 12, between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. Westbound pacing will also continue through next week.

One Graniteville victim fears never seeing a settlement

Victims of the Graniteville train wreck involved in a class-action lawsuit got the news they've been waiting to hear today: their lawsuit has been settled. One woman living in the town is still waiting for a resolution to her own lawsuit.
