UPDATE | Workers burned at local chemical plant

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Two workers at a local chemical plant are being treated for burn injuries this morning.

Deputies and firefighters were called to Chemtrade on Columbia Nitrogen Drive around 10 a.m., the Richmond County Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators say two employees were sprayed with sulfuric acid. Firefighters say one worker suffered significant burns. The other only had minor injuries. Their names have not been released.

The Chemtrade plant has closed and will remained closed for the rest of the day while an investigation is conducted. The plant employes 30 workers, the company said.
