ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — Orangeburg County deputies say a 37-year-old man has been charged with voluntary manslaughter after he punched his boss in the head twice when he was fired from his job at a car wash.

Authorities said 65-year-old Vernon Thompson was able to talk to officers after the beating Sunday and tell them that he was punched twice by Terrance Davis after he fired him.

Orangeburg County Deputy Coroner Sean Fogle says Thompson died the next day at the hospital from a head injury.

Deputies say Davis is cooperating with investigators. He is awaiting a bond hearing and it wasn't known if he had a lawyer.

Business listings show the address where the beating happened as the All In One Car Wash in Orangeburg.
