NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) -- North Myrtle Beach police say a missing North Carolina woman faked her disappearance to avoid going to court on criminal charges.

City spokesman Pat Dowling says investigators have determined that 42-year-old Amy Arrington did not drown in the ocean Saturday.

Dowling says investigators think the woman and her husband conspired for her to disappear to avoid a court appearance in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Monday on charges of forgery and identity theft. A judge has issued a warrant for her arrest.

Dowling says 45-year-old Paul David Arrington of Lowell, North Carolina, is being charged with filing a false police report about his wife's disappearance.

Investigators have not said where they think Amy Arrington is.

Paul Arrington told a lifeguard Saturday his wife and gone in the water and was missing.
