AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- What does the future hold for the city's bus system? Augusta commissioners are looking at expanding service to Fort Gordon and south Augusta.

In the coming weeks, they will vote whether to approve Mobility's plan for extending coverage. City leaders tackled that and so much more.

"It's pathetic, it really is," said bus rider Betty Flower.

"It's a lot of words and passing the buck. They are going around around. They're still going around," said Augusta Bus Association member Annette Mckey.

Mckey and Flower both ride the bus daily. They attended the city's meeting as commissioners tried to find a solution to the city's bus woes.

"The Fort Gordon they're talking about, we mentioned that two years ago. Adding service to south Augusta, we talked about that two years ago," Mckey said.

Only six of the 10 commissioners showed up. They discussed expanding hours the bus ran and adding routes to south Augusta and Fort Gordon.

"I believe that we got the points out," said Commissioner Alvin Mason.

"They have civil service jobs and jobs at the mess hall. If the young people could get a ride out there, it would be a lot of jobs available," Flower said.

"The service doesn't suck. The service is at an all-time high. The on-time performance is in the mid-90s, complaints are down further than they have been," said Mobility President Colin Meeth.

Meeth is blowing the horn on comments about the current service. The question is: Will commissioners do the same?
