WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WRDW) -- Waynesboro City Council member Brenda Lewis paid the Clerk of Court all of the money she owed today.
She paid $3,353 by the end of business Friday to avoid an arrest warrant. In October, she paid $1,500 to avoid jail time after missing a prior set deadline.
Lewis pleaded not guilty in February to fraud charges.
Burke County Chief Magistrate Sterling Wimberly says 49-year-old Lewis received 11 weekly unemployment checks when she was still employed in 2009.
A repayment plan was set up, but Lewis did not keep up her part of the agreement. The amount of money she was paid (plus interest and a fine) totals $4,295.
This is a violation of the Georgia Employment Security Law.
