AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Every good cook knows salt makes things taste better. Did you know it can help you drive better?

The winter freeze effects are clear with a Red Mustang going no where fast, a trailer missing it's tractor and a car being towed away on Berckman's road after losing control.

"It's not that bad really," Nina' Reeves from Seattle said.

Winters are colder there and it taught her what to do when the roads freeze.

"I wouldn't advise people to drive period. The roads are kind of bad, if you don't know how to handle it the roads can be pretty scary," she said.

"If you're below temperature, you are still going to have problems," said Engineer Abie Ladson.

Ladson had ten trucks on the road, scraping, dropping salt and sand since 9 Tuesday night.

Trails of sand on Windsor Spring and Tobacco road kept drivers moving.

"They're out in motor graders and wherever they have ice at they're hitting those spots," Ladson said.

They weren't the only one's out surveying the area. We ran into school officials doing a condition assessment near Glen Hills High School.

They took pictures of the roads and schools before deciding to close it for the second day in a row.

"It's so weak down here. I can't believe they closed everything down here but it's cool," she said.
