AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- A couple was injured after being attacked in downtown Augusta on Friday.

Wesley Spires, 27, is in critical but stable condition. Spires is a volunteer firefighter for the Westside Fire Department.

The second victim, 25-year-old Ashley Solesbee, has been released from the hospital.

Deputies say two men attacked the couple on the Riverwalk near the 700 block of Reynolds Street around 11 p.m. The two men demanded money from the couple, hitting them in the face and head with a metal object.

The two men, described as tall and slender black males, were wearing all-black clothing. They have not been identified at this time.
