AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Early Thursday morning, burglars smashed a truck through a convenience store on Rosier Road in South Augusta and stole an ATM.
Surveillance video caught a little bit of the burglary on tape, but the owner is hoping someone can help fill in the missing pieces.
Yong Hwa Chung owns the Manna Mart where the burglary happened. He says a deputy called him around 1:30 in the morning to tell him what happened. He arrived to find his store in shambles with a giant hole right through the front wall.
" I try to be good citizen, nice Christian, but only thing is, I have to overcome these kind of circumstances," he said.
Surveillance video only captures the beginning of the crime. A white pick-up truck backs into the front of the store before the truck rips out the electrical wire to the camera--and the feed goes out.
"What can we do? We have to overcome this kind of circumstances but I really hate this kind of people," he said.
Unfortunately, this isn't the first burglary at the Manna Mart. About 5 years ago, Chung was pistol whipped and robbed while working the cash register. Then, a little over a year ago, burglars used a crowbar to break in and steal a cash register.
Wallace Cantrell has done handy work for Manna Mart for years. After the last break in, he even installed metal bars to try and keep the bad guys out.
"I come and installed this metal bar where they couldn't stick anything in it, and I went ahead an installed a camera out here," he said.
But even steel bars couldn't keep the business safe. Now, with pieces of an ATM scattered on the ground, and a giant mess to clean up, they're just hoping investigators can catch these guys, before they strike again.
They estimate there's probably $15,000 dollars worth of damage to repair, not including the money stolen from the ATM.
