ATLANTA -- The Georgia Department of Labor has released the preliminary unemployment rates for the CSRA and the metro Augusta area for the month of November.
The rate for metro Augusta declined to 8.5 percent in November. That is down one-tenth of a percentage point from 8.6 percent in October. The rate back in November 2011 was 8.8 percent.
The rate declined to due job growth and fewer layoffs. In Augusta, there was an increase of 1,600 new jobs.
For the unemployment rate in the CSRA, the department found that rate declined to 9.6 percent, which is down one-tenth of a percentage point from 9.7 percent in October. In November 2011, the rate was also 9.7 percent.
There were 558 fewer layoffs in construction, trade, manufacturing, supportive services, health care, social assistance, accommodations, food services and transportation.
In Georgia, the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate declined to 8.5 percent in November.
