AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- "No problems, no injuries," said Anthony Williams, a Richmond County traffic engineering construction manager.
No problems or injuries, but a lot of headaches at the bridge on Windsor Spring Road near Plantation Road being closed.
"Someone called and said that the road was sinking," Williams explained.
So he went to check it out.
"The bridge is washed out up under the bottom from the heavy rains that we had earlier during the week and last week," Williams said.
So, it's got to be fixed.
"We are going to come in in the morning and dig out, cut the road, dig it out, pour some concrete to stop the eroding," Williams explained.
Causing a detour with backups through the neighborhood on Plantation Road.
"Most people have been cooperative and just followed the detour," Williams said.
The detour takes drivers north on Plantation Road to Peach Orchard Road. Then, south on Peach Orchard Road to Willis Foreman Road. Then, east on Willis Foreman Road back onto Windsor Spring Road.
A detour that is really out of the way for some -- 20 to 30 minutes out of the way.
"It's [going to] take me out of my route at least 20 minutes," said Rosalyn DeJesus.
DeJesus lives off Windsor Spring Road and says the bridge should have been better maintained.
"I feel, as taxpayers, we should have more decent roads to ride on because they receive their money on demand so we should have nice roads to ride on -- on demand," she explained.
But the city promises this will be a quick fix.
"It's regular wear and tear," Williams said. "Hopefully have the road opened by Sunday morning at the latest."
