AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW) -- News 12 has learned the runway at Twin Lakes Air Park has officially been closed down.
The S-17 Owners Association, the owners of the runway, failed to get the proper permits when they repaved the runway in 2006.
When county officials found out about it this past summer, they issued a fine of a thousand dollars per day until the owners could get the runway to meet engineering standards.
In October of 2011, the owners accepted a plea deal that included closing the runway.
Many of those who live nearby make their living in aviation.
