AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Coroner Grover Tuten has received and will continue to receive compensation from his office until Feb. 28, according to the city's staff attorney.
The amount equates to his regular pay which is $65,000 per year, Jody M. Smitherman said.
Tuten was indicted in January on 8 theft by taking and 5 violation of oath by a public officer charges.
According to a search warrant filed by the FBI, a confidential informant led investigators to Tuten. During their investigation, the FBI said they uncovered evidence linking him to misappropriating county funds.
The warrant also said Tuten was receiving county payments into a bank account that he used for personal purchases.
