Trial on hold until next week for suspect in crime spree

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- The trial for a man accused of murder, rape and armed robbery is on hold until next Wednesday.
Assistant District Attorney Natalie Paine says a witness is out of the country and will not be back until Jan. 16.
Paine says there's not been any indication that 19-year-old Hector Torres will take the stand in his defense.
Torres' trial began on Tuesday with witness testimony, including the son of 56-year-old Carl Bush, who was killed near the old train depot in 2010.
Investigators say Torres and two others -- Hamlet Perdomo and Michael Rewis -- went on a crime spree involving multiple crimes and victims in September 2010.
It started with a shooting incident on Telfair Street, then the murder of Bush on Reynolds Street. From there, the three men allegedly robbed two people at gunpoint on Tubman Home Road and then a man and his girlfriend on Fenwick Street. Investigators say they then abducted and sexually assaulted the woman.
