Trial begins for Martinez man accused in crime spree

Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Murder, armed robbery and rape are just some of the charges a Martinez man is facing in court this week.

Prosecutors called witnesses to the stand to testify against 19-year-old Hector Torres on Tuesday.

Among the witnesses was the son of 56-year-old Carl Bush, who was killed near the old train depot in 2010.

Deputies say Torres and two others -- Hamlet Perdomo and Michael Rewis -- went on a crime spree involving multiple crimes and multiple victims in September 2010.

It started with a shooting incident on Telfair Street, then the murder of Bush on Reynolds Street. From there, the three men allegedly robbed two people at gunpoint on Tubman Home Road and then a man and his girlfriend on Fenwick Street. Investigators say they then abducted and sexually assaulted the woman.

Torres' trial will resume on Wednesday morning.
