Thief steals thousands from Dairy Queen

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- The manager of the Dairy Queen on Central Avenue shows up to his restaurant to find thousands of dollars stolen.

The store manager says he put more than $5,000 into a safe after closing the store, the Sheriff's Office said.

He told deputies when he returned the next morning, he saw the office door was slightly open and the money from the register and the money from the safe were gone.

According to reports, the back door of the restaurant was pried open. The manager says he thinks a past employee may have taken the money.

Deputies are working on getting surveillance video to try to identify the thief.
