AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- City leaders will begin their search for a new Parks and Recreation director Wednesday morning. Three people will be interviewed for the position this week.

Ten months ago, News 12 broke the story of an investigation into Parks and Recreation Director Tom Beck falsifying time cards.

The city fired him shortly later.

"There's some specific issues of standards and accountability. I'm going to be interested in," said Commissioner Alvin Mason.

A few months after that, Beck turned around and sued the city.

"I can't speak to that. It's ongoing litigation," said City Administrator Fred Russell.

The search to fill that position has been ongoing for a while.

"What we're looking for is somebody that has a knowledge of providing a wide range of services in a community that is varied," Russell said.

This person would oversee parks, manage the Patch and other sports and athletics programs.

"They do building maintenance and stuff like that. It's an individual that wears many hats," Russell said.

The Parks and Recreation Department has been without a full-time director for about a year. If some city leaders have their way, they'll have someone walking through door any day now.

"It may be that we choose one of the four. It may be that we won't choose any of the four. we won't know that until next Tuesday," Mason said.
