AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW)----Long lines outside and long lines at the registers as Cabela's is officially open for business in the Village at Riverwatch.
Thousands were in line just before the store opened, while a few even spent the night there last night.
The shot of an arrow means big business for Cabela's and ultimately for Augusta. Shoppers, new employees and city employees are excited about what all this means.
We found people from all over. They all came here to get a first hand look and do some shopping. The first customer to buy some ammo is Ed Udell.
"This is too bad for Bass Pro Shops. I'll be shopping here instead of Atlanta now," Udell said.
Early on, Bass Pro Shops was looking to come to Augusta near this same location. The company also flirted with Columbia County.
That store's dream never came to fruition and Cabela's CEO Tommy Millner said he's happy about it.
Millner said this area was a great for Cabella's to open its first Georgia store.
"We saw this location. We loved this location. We loved being next to Costco. We are right on the South Carolina line. We get the Georgia and South Carolina customer," Millner said.
This $10 million building employs about 100 people. They expect it to bring in shoppers from as far as 250 miles away.
More customers will have the city sitting on more tax dollars.
