Renowned Augusta TV personality dies

AUGUSTA, GA (WRDW) - Local television personality Terry Sams, known to thousands of viewers as "Trooper Terry," has died at the age of 80.

The Tennessee native moved to Augusta in 1961 and entertained a generation of children from 1962 to 1982 on Channel 6.

He held many positions at WJBF TV over the years including writer, weatherman, station manager, and he was even part owner of the station at one point.

The North Augusta resident's memorial service was arranged by Posey Funeral Home. The service will be held at the First Baptist Church in North Augusta on Thursday, April 17 at 6:00 p.m.
