Teen accused of shooting father extradited back to North Carolina

RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW) - The teen arrested in Georgia for concealing the death of her father, will be extradited to North Carolina on first degree murder charges.

On Monday, 17-year-old Crystal Howell appeared before a judge where it was ruled she will be sent back to North Carolina.

Howell was originally arrested for concealing the murder of her father, Michael Howell who was the former sports editor for the Columbia County News-Times. The charges were later changed to first degree murder.

The 50-year-old victim was living hear Maggie Valley, North Carolina at the time of the shooting. Deputies say his body was found by people who were interested in renting his property.

Richmond County jail spokeswoman Deputy Heidi Warren says, they expect to transport Howell to Haywood County Detention within the week.
