AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- More than 200 people showed up to support the 2nd Amendment at a rally on Saturday.
Most people at the gun rally are against the gun proposals President Obama supports. However, one person in the crowd did think Obama is on the right track, but another thinks kids should be thought about guns.
The rally started at 1 p.m., but people started checking in early. The Libertarian party of the CSRA organized the event.
One supporter says rallies like this is what the country needs right now. He said Americans need to wake up.
"Our freedoms are being stripped away from by this tyrannical government we have," said Byron Spickard, an Army veteran.
Spickard says the president is way off on the topic of gun control and just wants to control people.
"There is not anything I agree with him on. I know his bottom line agenda," Spickard said.
However, there was one person in the crowd that agreed with the president.
"I agree with what he's doing. I totally support it," said Mari Vargas, who recently had a nephew shot and killed by gun violence in Chicago.
Vargas says it's crazy for people to think they need mass amounts of ammo.
"Why would anybody need 500 rounds of bullets, you know? That's insane," she said.
Vargas says the recent acts of violence are what brings her to that decision.
"There's too many kids, too many innocent people being killed on the streets," Vargas said.
While Vargas wants gun restrictions, especially for children's safety, Marjorie LaPan says children need to be educated about guns.
"My children and everybody's children do need to be familiar with guns," LaPan said.
LaPan says education is important for children. She says the more familiar a person is with something, the less likely they are to mishandle it.
"It's the children who are not brought up around firearms that don't know how dangerous they can be," LaPan said.
Close to 300 people came to the rally. They say their party is one of principle. Supporting smaller government, lower taxes and more freedom -- especially gun freedom.
